PIO Number: 01-12-29
Date: November 19, 2001
Place of Occurrence: 1761 W. Hillsboro Blvd., Deerfield Beach

Victim(s):

  • Suntrust Bank, 1761 W. Hillsboro Blvd., Deerfield Beach

Suspect(s):

  • Unidentified white male, 18-26 years old

Description of Incident:

The Broward Sheriff's Office is looking for the misguided man who tried to pry open a bank
A-T-M, after obscuring only one of two surveillance cameras.

Just before 6:00 pm on Sunday, November 18, 2001, the suspect, driving what may be a black or dark colored Ford Explorer, pulled up to the A-T-M at Suntrust Bank, 1761 W. Hillsboro Blvd. in Deerfield Beach.

Surveillance video from the bank shows the man placing a piece of tape or paper over one of the A-T-M’s two security cameras. The tape or paper falls off the camera lens, giving a clear photo of the suspect’s face, before the bungling burglar obscures the camera again.

The A-T-M’s second camera captures the suspect’s folly as he unsuccessfully tries to pry open the cash machine. After approximately ten minutes, the man leaves empty-handed and frustrated.

The suspect is a white male, approximately 18-26 years old, clean-shaven with short hair. He was last seen wearing a white, floppy hat, a Miami Dolphins jersey, and light colored shorts.

He is wanted for attempted grand theft and for damaging the A-T-M.

Anyone with information on the suspect’s identity should call Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest of this suspect.

MEDIA PLEASE NOTE: A video clip compiled of still shots from the bank surveillance cameras is available at the Media Relations office Monday-Friday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm for your story production.
