BSO PROMOTES 20 AND WELCOMES SIX

Description of Incident:
On Friday morning, Broward Sheriff Ken Jenne will promote 20 Broward Sheriff's Office veterans into supervisory positions and will welcome six former Hollywood Police employees, entering the ranks of BSO.
The promotions include members of the BSO Department of Law Enforcement and Department of Detention and Community Control. Before presenting badges and offering congratulations to those being promoted, Sheriff Jenne will administer the deputy’s oath to six former Hollywood Detention officers who man the Satellite Booking Facility in Hollywood. As of August 1st, BSO took responsibility for the booking center, which accepts newly arrested criminal suspects from police officers and deputies patrolling the south end of the county. The new deputies are Joseph Companion, Kevin Correa, Richard Gorz, Donald Meltzer, Brian Preston and Jimmie Smith.
In BSO’s Department of Detention and Community Control, Program Specialist Darren Sieger is being promoted to Classification Manager and Deputies Howard Martzall and Sonja Greene-Smith are both being promoted to sergeant.
In BSO’s Department of Law Enforcement, 12 deputies are advancing to the rank of sergeant, including Nicole Armstrong, Steven Cady, Eduardo Chaves-Velando, Tim Concannon, Peter Fortunato, William Jackson, Oscar Llerena, James Murray, Jose Perez, Caren Pollacia, Carmine Testa and Sharon Wesolowski. Four sergeants are being promoted to lieutenant: William Friel, Donald Harris, Rafael Perez and Barbara Stewart. Lt. David Rahinsky, who had been assigned to District 2 (Dania Beach) will be promoted to chief and will be transferred to BSO District 1 (Pembroke Park and south Broward).
