MOTORCYCLE TOY RUN THIS SUNDAY
December 2, 2001, 9:45 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Southbound I-95 and westbound I-595
Pompano Beach to Southwest Broward
The Broward Sheriff's Office is warning motorists to avoid I-95 and I-595 on Sunday as 30,000 motorcycle riders are expected to participate in the annual Toys for Tots Toy Run.
The annual event will mean happier holidays for needy local youngsters since it should bring donations of more than 30,000 new toys. Each biker participating in the enormous cycle parade must contribute at least one toy to be included. The Toy Run commences at the Pompano Harness Track and ends with an all-day outing at Markham Park in Sunrise.
To make room for the motors and ensure a safe ride for everyone, southbound I-95 and westbound I-595 will be closed to all traffic from 9:45 a.m., when the first bike hits the Atlantic Boulevard on-ramp, until about 1 p.m., when the last rider exits at SW 136th Avenue. Fans driving to the 1 p.m. Miami Dolphins game at Pro Player Stadium should take the Florida Turnpike or some other route. Southbound I-95 traffic will be backed up well north of Atlantic Boulevard, so motorists in north Broward and southern Palm Beach Counties would be wise to avoid the interstate.
After assembling at the Pompano Harness Track, the motorcycle riders will travel north on Powerline Road, east on Atlantic Blvd., south on I-95, west on I-595 to the SW 136 Avenue exit, then west on State Road 84 to Markham Park. There will be no procession leaving the park as the participants will disperse on their own throughout the day.
