Description of Incident:
The Broward Sheriff’s Office and several other law enforcement agencies in Broward and Palm Beach Counties are investigating a rash of robberies and burglaries believed to have been committed by the same suspects since the beginning of this year.
The suspects normally target victims who have just left a bank. They follow their victims from the bank and attempt to get them to pull over by telling the unsuspecting victims they have a flat tire or they wait for the victims to make another stop and then inform them of the flat tire - that the suspects punctured while the victim was at the bank.
The suspects approach the victims and appear to be good Samaritans and offer their victims assistance with their flat tires. One suspect distracts the victim while the other suspect steals the victim’s cash or purse from the vehicle. The suspects then flee to a van, possibly a Dodge Caravan. One of the suspects, in the BSO cases, is described as having a thin build, believed to be in his 20’s, about six feet tall with dark curly hair. The second suspect is about five feet six inches tall with a husky build, in his 20’s with dark curly hair. Both are white or Latin males.
The majority of the victims have been elderly and/or females, but a few have been younger victims.
Investigators are urging anyone who is approached by these suspects not to accept their assistance. If someone tries to get you to pull over for any reason, go to the nearest police department, gas station or crowded store parking lot and seek assistance from within the establishment. When leaving your vehicle, take your personal belongings with you and remember to lock your car doors.
Anyone with information on the identity or whereabouts of these suspects is encouraged to call BSO Robbery Det. Bob Kerr at (954) 321-4270 or call Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
MEDIA NOTE: If you need a chronological list of similar crimes being investigated in Broward and Palm Beach Counties, please call the BSO PIO at (954) 831-8300 and list will be faxed to you.
