Description of Incident:
A 25-year-old South Broward High School teacher was arrested Tuesday night for engaging in consensual sexual activity with a 16-year-old student in December.

The teen’s mother became aware of the relationship between her daughter and teacher Michael James Lunt when she noticed a change in her daughter’s behavior. Concerned that he unfairly used his position as a teacher to coerce the girl, her mother reported it to law enforcement.

"Our school district police are working in collaboration with BSO and have launched an administrative investigation, “Broward County Public Schools spokeswoman Tracy Clark said. “The teacher will be reassigned away from students while the criminal and administrative investigations continue."

Lunt turned himself in Tuesday night at the Broward Sheriff’s Main Jail. He was charged with one count of unlawful sexual activity with certain minors, a second-degree felony.

Anyone with information about other inappropriate behavior by Lunt can report it to Broward Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit Detective Ann Suter at (954) 321-4240.

Media note: Lunt’s mug shot is attached to this release.
