BSO TEAMS WITH MARLINS TO HELP NEEDY CHILDREN

There’s nothing like a new toy to put a smile on the face of a child during the holidays, and the Broward Sheriff's Office is again working with area businesses to help the Toys for Tots and Teens program.

BSO will gratefully accept a check from the Florida Marlins to buy toys for needy children throughout Broward County. The check presentation is scheduled for 11:00am on Thursday, December 6th, 2001 at the RON COCHRAN PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING, 2601 W. Broward Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale.

The Broward Sheriff's Office would like to thank the Marlins, Holland American Cruises, Red Lobster, Wal-Mart, Union Planters Bank, Enterprise Leasing, Union Bank, and many local businesses for their generous support of the 9th Annual Toys for Tots and Teens holiday toy drive.

Disadvantaged youngsters are selected by BSO school resource officers and school board staff, and then invited to a fun-filled event where they receive gifts from Santa and Sheriff Ken Jenne. Last year the Broward Sheriff's Office distributed more than 5-thousand toys to needy children.

Broward Crime Stoppers also helps this tremendous program by holding an annual raffle. To purchase a ticket and help an underprivileged child, contact a BSO school resource officer, or call (954) 321-4100.

MEDIA; PLEASE NOTE THERE WILL BE A MEMORIAL FOR SLAIN LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS AT THE PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING ONE HALF HOUR PRIOR TO THE ABOVEMENTIONED CHECK PRESENTATION. A SINGLE REPORTER CAN EASILY COVER BOTH STORIES. WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE.
