BODY ON TRACKS HALTS FREIGHT TRAIN

Description of Incident:

A freight train struck a body lying on the tracks early Wednesday morning in Pompano Beach. Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide detectives are investigating the death.

At 10:20 a.m., BSO deputies responded to the train tracks near the 900 block of Southwest Dixie Hwy. where a southbound Florida East Coast Railway’s freight train struck the body of a man. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was often seen walking near the tracks by people who work in the area.

Initial homicide investigation has uncovered no signs of foul play. The Broward Medical Examiner’s Office is working to identify the cause of death. During the initial investigation travel on the train tracks was delayed and the rail crossing at S.W. 6 Street was blocked. Travel in both areas has since been restored.
