DRUNK DRIVER FLEES AND TRIES TO HIDE CRIME

Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies arrested a drunk driver who killed a motorcyclist Friday night in Pompano Beach, then fled the scene and tried to cover up the crime.

At 9:36 p.m. on Feb. 28, Nadia Verdoni was driving a Ford SUV northbound in the left turn lane of N. Federal Hwy. attempting to turn left onto N.E. 4 St. Verdonia turned on a solid green traffic signal into the path of the southbound traffic. Benjamin Pirofsky, who was traveling southbound on a motorcycle, attempted to brake but struck the right rear of the suspect's car and was ejected from the impact. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nadia Verdoni fled the scene of the crash. BSO deputies responded to her home and found her attempting to conceal the damage to her vehicle by covering the car with a tarp. Verdonia was determined to have been driving under the influence of alcohol and was arrested. She will be charged with DUI manslaughter, leaving the scene involving death and tampering with evidence.
