Description of Incident:

Detectives hope that a substantial increase to the Crime Stoppers reward will generate new information that leads them to Marquel McCormes’ killer. The additional $22,000 added to the initial $3,000 reward is being offered by concerned citizens of Broward County.

As a group of friends came home from a late night out at a local club early Saturday morning, one lagged behind the others. When he finally staggered into the house, his friends knew something was wrong and called 9-1-1. Marquel McCormes collapsed on his friend's kitchen floor with blood in his mouth. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue paramedics rushed him to the hospital, where they determined he had been shot. McCormes, 29, died less than an hour later at Florida Medical Center.

Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives are trying to determine who shot McCormes and why. Earlier in the night, the group was hanging out at the FME Club in the 4200 block of State Road 7 in Lauderdale Lakes. With McCormes at the wheel of his black Dodge Charger around 4 a.m., they dropped one friend off at his house and then headed to another friend's house at 3540 N.W. 24th St. to sleep. It's unclear whether a dispute that started at the club or elsewhere led to the gunfire at the house.

Anyone with information about the homicide can report it to BSO Det. Kevin Forsberg at (954) 321-4279 or report tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Broward County at (954) 493-TIPS (8477) or online at www.browardcrimestoppers.org. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $25,000 for a tip that leads to an arrest.

MEDIA NOTE: Marquel McCormes’ father, sister and the lead detective will be available for interviews at 4 p.m. today (May 2) in the Multi-purpose room at the Public Safety Building at 2601 W. Broward Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale.
