OPPORTUNISTIC THIEF PICKS UNATTENDED WALLET

Description of Incident:

An unidentified man seized the opportunity to steal when he noticed an unattended wallet while getting his car washed in Deerfield Beach. Detectives are searching for the thief with the distinctive Mercedes.

On the evening of March 15 Graciela Smyth was driving home from the Car Wash on West Sample Road in Deerfield Beach when she realized she had forgotten her wallet in the waiting area. When she returned, the wallet was waiting for her but the cash inside was gone. Surveillance video shows a man going into the car wash waiting room. He spotted the wallet lying under one of the seats and got up and sat next to it. The man picked up the wallet and walked off screen where he stole several hundred dollars found inside. He then returned to the sitting area and placed the wallet back where he found it. The thief is also captured on video as he gets into a 2002-2006 Mercedes Benz C-class Station Wagon, champagne in color with a distinctive grill. Suspect is described as a middle-aged black male.
