BSO’S ‘OPERATION FULL BLITZ’ PUTS CRIMINALS ON THE BENCH
Date: November 25, 2013 PIO#:13-11-23
Operation Full Blitz, a two-day, multi-agency law enforcement operation to fight illegal drugs, prostitution, child sexual predators, drunk driving, aggressive driving and fugitives resulted in 180 arrests and 288 traffic citations.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office, along with multiple federal, state and local partner agencies, also confiscated 26 firearms and over $1 million during the operation Friday and Monday. Of the 180 people arrested, 109 were charged with felonies, and 71 were charged with misdemeanors.
“We did this for the law-abiding residents of Broward County who shouldn’t have to worry about drug dealers standing on their corners, prostitutes walking their streets, drunken or aggressive drivers on their highways or sexual predators preying on their children,” Sheriff Scott Israel said.
The Broward County Drug Task force, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the U.S. Marshals, the U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Homeland Security investigations, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Florida State Probation and Parole and police officers from the cities of Ft. Lauderdale, Hollywood, Hallandale, Lauderhill, Sunrise, Coral Springs all took part in the operation.
The arrest and booking process was streamlined by having those arrested taken to BSO’s Stockade detention facility, where they received jail attire, were assessed by medical staff and had their property processed before being transported to jail. Deputies and officers on the streets never had to stop working to transport arrested people.
“I am extremely proud of the teamwork and diligence of everyone who worked on Operation Full Blitz,” Sheriff Israel said. “When law enforcement stands together against crime, there is no one who can stand against us.”
