BSO Case Number: 07-1308-001334
PIO Number: 13-8-28
Date: August 13, 2013
Time: 5:34 p.m.
Place of Occurrence: 6700 N.W. 57 St., Tamarac
Jurisdiction: Tamarac

Victim(s):

  • Brookelya Parrish, female, 21, Tamarac

Suspect(s):

  • unidentified male, (composite sketch attached)

Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives are looking for a man who wore a badge on his belt, stood in the middle of the road and directed a driver to pull over. The 21-year-old woman thought she was going to get a speeding ticket.

But when the man ordered her out of her car, Brookelya Parrish felt something wasn’t right and, instead, rolled up her passenger window. He pulled out something that looked like a crow bar and used it to smash the window. He grabbed her purse, which was on the front passenger seat, but Parrish grabbed it, too. He yelled at her to let go, but she held on. She was able to wrench the purse from him, so he grabbed her cell phone and laptop computer and ran back to his dark-colored Ford Taurus.

Parrish, who had a small cut on her hand from the broken glass, worked with BSO Det. John McMahon to create a composite sketch of the phony cop. She described him as a white male with short, black, spikey hair and blue eyes. He had been wearing a white T-shirt, black jeans and black boots.

Anyone with information about this crime can call BSO Robbery Detective Roger Peterson at (954) 321-4270 or report tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Broward County at (954) 493-TIPS (8477) or online at www.browardcrimestoppers.org. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $3,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
