BSO, FHP TEAM UP FOR HOLIDAY TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT

The Broward Sheriff’s Office is teaming up with the Florida Highway Patrol for traffic enforcement for the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
BSO’s Regional Traffic Unit and troopers from FHP Troop L – Broward and Troop K – Broward Turnpike will saturate all major interstates and toll roads in Broward County to enforce traffic laws and educate motorists to promote safety on the roads.
Deputies and troopers will be enforcing moving violations, speeding, reckless drivers, move over law violators and impaired drivers. The holiday traffic enforcement period will run from Thursday morning through Sunday night. In addition, there will be a DUI saturation patrol Saturday night, targeting impaired drivers on the roads.
In 2012, there were 42 traffic deaths in Florida during the July 4th holiday period. In 2011, the National Safety Council (NSC) reported 405 traffic fatalities and estimates there will be 540 this year nationwide. In addition, the NSC estimates 57,800 people will be injured in traffic crashes that warrant medical care.
