Description of Incident:

An early morning collision between a taxi cab and a pickup left one man dead and four others in the hospital.

The deadly crash happened around 3:30 a.m. Monday, October 7, at the intersection of Sheridan Street and Federal Highway in Dania Beach. The red pickup was traveling westbound on Sheridan Street as the Friendly Checker taxi, driven by Frantz Joseph, 53, was headed southbound on Federal Highway. The pickup struck the taxi, propelling both vehicles onto the lot of the Shell gas station at the southwest corner of the intersection.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue and Hollywood Fire Rescue transported all five people involved in the collision to Memorial Regional Hospital.

Joseph was pronounced dead, while the rest remain in serious condition.

The intersection remained closed until about 7 a.m. while traffic homicide detectives examined the scene.

The investigation continues.
