Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives are searching for a thief who was captured on surveillance video as he did a smash and grab in a Weston YMCA earlier this month.

At 12:10 p.m. on March 5, Raquel Laaroussi went to her local YMCA on Saddle Club Road in Weston. Unfortunately, Laaroussi forgot her Gucci purse on the front seat of her Honda minivan. The purse was soon spotted by an opportunistic thief who smashed the passenger side window and made off with the victim’s purse, cash and credits cards.

The suspect was recorded by the YMCA surveillance cameras as he parked his car next to the victim’s van, walked away and then returned and stole her belongings. Thirty minutes after the theft, the man used one of the stolen cards at a Target in Hollywood. Target security cameras captured him as exited the store.

Detectives are looking for a black man who was driving a late model, navy or black, 4-door sedan, possibly a Buick Verano. He wore a white T-shirt and shorts.

Anyone with information is asked to contact BSO Detective Hector Olivia at 954-659-3531 or Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or www.browardcrimestoppers.org. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $3,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
