A man who left a .38-caliber revolver and ammunition in his nightstand drawer is being charged with culpable negligence after his 13-year-old stepson found the weapon and shot his sister.
Angela Divin, 6, was hit once in the chest. She survived and is recovering from her injuries. Her stepfather, Hary Charles, 27, told detectives he left the gun and bullets in his nightstand. He has been charged with one count of culpable negligence for allowing a minor access to a weapon with injury.
The siblings had been home alone just before 7 p.m. on May 4 when the shooting happened. The frightened boy then went to a neighbor’s house saying he needed help calling his mother. The neighbor followed the teen back to his house and found the injured girl, her shirt covered in blood.
