Description of Incident:

The Broward Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a car crash victim who expired as paramedics transported him to the hospital on Monday.

Shortly before 2 p.m., Oral Brown, 37, lost control of his 1998 Ford Expedition while driving westbound in the 3400 block of West Sunrise Boulevard. The vehicle knocked down a chain link fence outside the Swap Shop and overturned, trapping Brown inside. BSO deputies, FHP troopers and Broward County Fire Rescue units responded and the “jaws of life” tool was utilized to extract Brown from the wreckage. As he was being extracted, Brown became agitated, and after being freed, he began to walk away from the scene and started pounding on the hood of a Lexus parked nearby. As deputies and EMS personnel attempted to question him and evaluate his condition he became combative. For his safety, and the safety of paramedics, Brown was immediately restrained with handcuffs, was strapped to a gurney, and was placed in an ambulance bound for Broward General Medical Center.

According to paramedics, Brown suffered a grand mal epileptic seizure while enroute to the hospital and died. Efforts to revive him upon arrival at Broward General were unsuccessful.

The exact cause of death will be determined by the Broward Medical Examiner following an autopsy.
