Description of Incident:

A Cooper City woman who called 911 and threatened to kill someone was fatally wounded Monday morning after she pointed her gun at Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies.

Shortly after 9 a.m., Lisa Taylor called 911 from her home at 7 Fir Way in Cooper City and told the operator she was “gonna kill somebody” and that she had a gun. The 44-year-old woman then hung up the phone. While the 911 operator tried to call her back, BSO units were dispatched to the scene.

Arriving deputies encountered Taylor, who was armed with a gun, walking in the street near the intersection of Fir Way and Sailboat Drive. The uniformed deputies approached and gave Taylor several verbal commands to drop her weapon. One sergeant and two deputies fired their weapons when Taylor refused to comply and pointed her gun at them.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue rushed Taylor to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood where she was pronounced dead at 10 a.m. No other injuries were reported.

An off-duty Pembroke Pines officer was driving in the area at the time of the shooting. The windshield of the Ford Escape he and his father were traveling in was accidentally struck by one of the deputies’ bullets. Fortunately, the officer and his father were not injured.

As homicide detectives spent most of the day taking statements and reviewing the evidence, they learned Taylor was armed with a Crossman handgun, which shoots 6 mm BBs.

Per BSO policy, homicide detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Sgt. Jason Tarala, Dep. Juan Hernandez and Dep. Toni Hopkins were placed on administrative assignment.
