Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff's Office detectives are trying to identify and locate an angry passenger who sprayed a driver in the face with pepper spray while exiting a Broward County bus.

BSO deputies responded to an emergency alarm, coming from Broward County Mass Transit bus number 0119, shortly before 9 o’clock Tuesday morning. When deputies arrived in the 800 block of Hammondville Road in Pompano Beach, they found the driver, Steve Cipriano, and several passengers standing outside the bus.

Cipriano told deputies that for no apparent reason the unidentified passenger sprayed his face while getting off the bus. Other witnesses said the suspect was complaining that Cipriano was driving too slowly and that he was going to be late for work. Pompano Beach Fire Rescue transported Cipriano to North Broward Medical Center for treatment.

Cipriano picked up the black male suspect at Hammondville Road and Dixie Highway about 5:30 a.m. The suspect was supposedly going to work, but stayed on the bus the entire route. He is believed to be about five feet ten inches tall, approximately 17 to 19 years old with a medium Afro. He was last seen wearing a dark blue with orange trim (around the sleeves) basketball tank top jersey. The jersey had the letters “USA” on the front and the number “7” on the back. The suspect was also wearing a pair of baggie carpenter type jeans, with a hammer hanging on the right side. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Broward County crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
