CAR FATALLY STRIKES PEDESTRIAN IN TAMARAC

Driver: Robert Whitson, male, 65, Boynton Beach

Pedestrian: Unidentified adult male

Description of Incident:

By all accounts, the driver was not speeding when a pedestrian stepped into the path of his silver Hyundai Sonata on Thursday. Broward Sheriff’s Office traffic homicide detectives are investigating the fatal crash.

Around 9:18 p.m. Aug. 31, Robert Whitson was driving west on West Commercial Boulevard near Northwest 31st Avenue in Tamarac when the unidentified pedestrian entered the road from the sidewalk on the north side of the road.

Whitson remained at the scene and called for help. Tamarac Fire Rescue pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. Broward County’s Office of Medical Examiner and Trauma Services is working to identify him.
