ARMED ASSAILANT TARGETING FEMALE JOGGERS

Detectives from the Broward Sheriff's Office Violent Crimes Unit are asking for the public's help identifying a brazen, armed attacker who has preyed recently on two female joggers. In both cases, on April 29 and May 1, the man approached a woman jogger, showed her a gun and spoke to her in Spanish. In each instance, he grabbed the woman and tried to drag her into bushes or a tree line, all the while giving orders in Spanish. Both victims are English-speaking and don't know what he was telling them. In both cases, the women fought back and were able to escape. One victim hit the man's face, and the other bit his hands.
 
 
The assailant is described as a clean-shaven, Hispanic male in his mid to late twenties. He is approximately 5-foot-9 to 6-feet tall with a medium build. He had dark, spiky hair  He may have moles along the side of his face and bite marks on his hands. He appears to have been targeting areas often frequented by joggers in the area between West McNab road and Tam O'Shanter Boulevard along the Hamptons Boulevard / Avon Lane corridor. Both attacks occurred at night between 8:30 PM and 10:30 PM.
 
Anyone with information about this man should can contact BSO Det. Zachary Scott at (954) 321-4200 or report anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers of Broward County at (954) 493-TIPS (8477). Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
