Description of Incident:
A Pompano Beach man has been charged with the murder of his son, after the child died three years later from injuries sustained in 2009.
On June 11, 2009, Paul G. Day was arrested by Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives after his then-5-month-old son sustained injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome. The call was received at 2:50 p.m. after it was reported that there was a baby not breathing at 4331 NE 19 Ter. in Oakland Park. Anibus Day was transported by Oakland Park Fire Rescue to Holy Cross Medical Center in Ft. Lauderdale. The child never regained consciousness and was placed in a children’s care facility in Pompano Beach. Paul Day admitted shaking the baby to stop him from crying. The baby also had other injuries. Day was charged with aggravated child abuse and child neglect.
On December 15, 2012, a nurse at the children’s care center where Anibus Day resided noticed the child unresponsive and fire rescue transported him to Broward Health Medical Center where he died that evening. The Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy and determined that Day died as a result of complications from a non-accidental closed head injury and ruled the manner of death a homicide. At the time of the murder arrest, Day was on pretrial release awaiting trial for the 2009 charges.
