UPDATE: POMPANO BEACH SHOOTING SUSPECT BACK IN BROWARD

At 11 a.m., Sunday, July 1, Broward Sheriff’s Office and Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office detectives arrested 19-year-old Scott Chery (12-19-92) for his role in a shooting that happened Saturday afternoon in Pompano Beach. Chery was transferred July 5 from Palm Beach County to Broward County to face one count of attempted murder. The man he shot, 26-year-old Trentny Leak, remains hospitalized at Broward Health North.
Detectives say that minutes after the 5:40 p.m. shooting June 30, Chery boarded a Tri-Rail train in Broward County and headed north. BSO detectives quickly identified him as the shooter and released his photo to the public. Together with Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office detectives, they worked through the night to locate Chery, eventually finding him at 3562 Burma Circle in unincorporated Lake Park and taking him safely into custody. A friend of Chery's lives at the house.
The shooting was prompted by a dispute among family members and friends at 240 S.W. 8th Street in Pompano Beach, where they all live.
