- Date: October 9, 2012 PIO #: 12-10-10
The Broward Sheriff’s Office Department of Detention and Community Control received the Excelsior Award for obtaining an impressive fifth re-accreditation with the Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission. The award was presented September 25 in Sarasota to BSO Colonel James Wimberly, Major Keith Neely and members of the Department of Detention’s Compliance Unit at a Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission meeting.
BSO is one of five agencies including the Jacksonville-Duval Sheriff's Office, Marion County Sheriff's Office, Palm Beach Sheriff's Office and the Sarasota Sheriff's Office in the state of Florida to achieve this status.
“Our agency’s multiple accreditations ensure that we provide the highest level of service to the residents of Broward County,” Sheriff Al Lamberti said. “The Excelsior Award is evidence that BSO’s Department of Detention is dedicated not just to achieving but also to maintaining excellence.”
