HUNDREDS RUN FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS AT LAW ENFORCEMENT TORCH RUN

 

More than 300 people participated in the 32nd annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Thursday to benefit Special Olympics. The 32-mile countywide torch relay began at 8:30 a.m. at the Miami-Dade County line and wound through Broward County to the Palm Beach County line. It ended with a picnic at Dan Witt Park in Lighthouse Point. The run was part of a 1,400-mile statewide relay that will culminate May 17-18 at the opening ceremonies of the Florida Special Olympics Summer Games at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex in Lake Buena Vista.  In addition to the Broward Sheriff’s Office personnel, police officers from several cities including Coconut Creek, Sunrise, Miramar, Lauderhill, Fort Lauderdale, Hallandale and Plantation participated in the run.
