  • Mohamed Ghanie, 26, 8/1/75, male, 192 Gulfstream Cir., Royal Palm Beach

Description of Incident:

A Palm Beach County man was arrested Tuesday after he drove to Broward County to rendezvous with a teenager solicited over the internet.

Mohamed Ghanie, 26, was arrested by a BSO detective assigned to the LEACH (Law Enforcement Against Child Harm) task force when he arrived at the McDonald’s restaurant at 1351 South University Drive on Tuesday afternoon. While posing as a 14-year-old girl in an online computer chatroom on August 8th, the detective received an instant message from someone using the screen name “MG21.” MG21 claimed to be a 21-year-old man who wrote that he was interested in having sexual relations with a 14-year-old girl. Investigators learned that MG21 was Mohamed Ghanie, who was actually a 26-year-old salesman from Royal Palm Beach.

On Monday, the undercover detective, still posing as a teenage girl, was contacted via computer again by MG21, who suggested that they get a motel room, promising he would “be gentle and use protection.” On Tuesday, they communicated one more time and a rendezvous was arranged for that afternoon at the McDonald’s restaurant. When Ghanie arrived in his new leased gold Lexus, the detective he had unwittingly propositioned took him into custody.

Ghanie was charged with one count of Computer Pornography and was booked at the Broward County Jail. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
