You don’t have to be a high roller to watch police motorcycles roll out for the 24th Annual Southeast Police Motorcycle Rodeo at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood.
Over 150 police motorcycle units from all over the eastern United States and beyond are already on site and running through test trials for the big event on Saturday. It is the largest police motorcycle safety skills competition held in the southeast. The Broward Sheriff’s Office, with over 50 motorcycle deputies, has proudly been affiliated with this event since its inception.
The event has two main benefits. For motor officers from around the country, they train throughout the week and enhance their safety skills while at the same time raising funds for the families of slain law enforcement officers through the Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) charity.
The training courses are designed to enhance the daily riding skills of the motorcycle officer. They are intricate and very demanding, and are identical to those used in the police motorcycle enforcement rider school. Three days of training precede Saturday’s rodeo (safety trials and Fun Run) which actually simulates the challenges motorcycle officers encounter daily. Motor officers must participate in the safety trials to qualify for the Fun Run.
Admission all week is free and is sure to be an exciting day for the whole family. In addition to vendor booths, food and a kid’s zone with a bounce house is a raffle for a 2013 Harley-Davidson X883 Iron Edition Sportster Motorcycle with a trailer. Raffle tickets can be purchased during the rodeo for $1 each or 25 tickets for $20. Proceeds will go to C.O.P.S. For more information, visit www.southeastpolice.com or call 754-224-9760.
