Description of Incident:

A two-year-old Deerfield Beach toddler died after being pulled from a community pool near her home Saturday afternoon.

Julianna Lacerda, 2, was at home with her mother when she apparently slipped out of the house undetected. It wasn’t until awhile later, when Julianna’s father returned home, that he noticed the little girl wasn’t there. The parents began looking for the child and called 9-1-1 to report her missing.

BSO deputies were dispatched and a subsequent 9-1-1 call reported the child was found, unresponsive, by her father in the community pool several houses down from theirs. The child’s father attempted CPR and BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue units arrived on the scene. BSFR firefighter/paramedics initiated aggressive resuscitative efforts and flew the victim via BSO Air Rescue to Broward Health Medical Center. Lacerda was pronounced dead at 3:34 p.m.

At this time, BSO Homicide Unit detectives are conducting an investigation however, it appears that this was a sad tragedy and no foul play is suspected. The Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office will confirm the cause of death, presumed to be drowning.
