Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff’s Robbery detectives have obtained an arrest warrant for an armed and extremely dangerous suspect wanted on six counts of armed robbery in connection with two recent crimes.

On September 27 around 7:30 p.m., BSO Robbery detectives said the suspect approached a 24-year-old female in the parking lot of Fitzwilly’s Pub & Raw Bar, located at 2500 West Oakland Park Boulevard, and demanded her purse at gunpoint. The victim, her husband and two other friends were preparing to leave when the suspect robbed each one of them of their wallets, money, and purses. Before fleeing the scene, the suspect ripped several gold chains from one of the victims, leaving a deep laceration around her neck. The suspect then drove away alone in a maroon 1985 Chevrolet Caprice that later proved to be stolen.

The suspect struck again one week later at a machine shop also in Oakland Park. The victims, a husband and wife, were inside the shop around 6:30 p.m., when the suspect walked in pointing a small caliber handgun and demanding money from the couple.

The suspect ordered both victims into the bathroom and threatened to kill them if they did not give him any money. The armed male allowed the female victim to leave the restroom to get her purse. Still insisting on more money, the suspect pistol-whipped the husband on his head. The victim, fearing for his life and his wife’s life, retrieved his 9MM handgun when the suspect left the couple alone for a brief moment. The victim fired several shots striking the suspect in the foot. The gunman jumped in the passenger side of the same stolen 1985 Chevrolet Caprice and fled the scene. The male driver has not been identified. The car was recovered two days later in Fort Lauderdale at NW 24 Avenue and 14 Street. The male victim received medical treatment for his head injury.

Through their investigation robbery detectives identified David A. Smith as the suspect. BSO detectives believe David Smith, who was release from prison in August 2001, is armed and extremely dangerous. Anyone coming into contact with Smith should call 911. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is urged to call BSO Robbery Det. Bob Kerr at (954) 321-4270 or call Crime Stoppers, anonymously at (954) 493-TIPS.
