There’s nothing quite as special as the happiness a kid feels when they get a brand new bike. Sheriff Scott Israel, the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Kathleen Windridge of Windridge Yacht Charters and the Broward Sheriff’s Advisory Council have come together to make that dream a reality for 180 deserving kids this holiday season.

The 2013 Bicycles for Champions Christmas Extravaganza was created with the goal of making this Christmas one they would always remember. “Our mission is to see a smile on each child’s face and to have them feel that the day was created just for them,” said Susan Israel. Students, selected by BSO School Resource Deputies, will receive a series of gifts starting with a new bike, a bike helmet and lock, a new pair of sneakers, an event t-shirt and a new backpack. “The gifts are just the beginning; they are special and deserving kids and we really pulled all the stops so that they can feel it,” said Kathleen Windridge.

The kids will take a scenic cruise along the beautiful Fort Lauderdale Intracoastal Waterway on the MV Lady Windridge, a 170-foot luxury yacht. The cruise will be catered with kid-favorite foods and the kids will be entertained by their very own DJ. The kids will party down the Intracoastal as they enjoy the views of the magnificent homes that line the Intracoastal Waterway. Santa will also be making a special appearance to add his own kind of holiday magic to the party. The gifts will be distributed at Boyd Anderson High School where Sheriff Israel will speak to the students regarding the importance of making positive life choices. "Sometimes we forget that Christmas is not always a happy time for every child. This event is about letting these kids be kids. It seems simple, but it’s very powerful,” said Sheriff Scott Israel.
