Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies will be out on the roadways and the waterways for the Labor Day weekend to help ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday for everyone. BSO will utilize increased patrols, checkpoints and selective enforcement to encourage motorists and boaters to operate vessels and vehicles in a safe and sober manner.

BSO’s DUI Task Force will be in Tamarac Friday night, manning a checkpoint in the 4200 block of Commercial Boulevard from 9 p.m. until 3 a.m. On Saturday evening, they’ll run a checkpoint in the 2000 block of South State Road 7 in Miramar. BSO District 4 deputies will also operate a checkpoint in Lauderdale Lakes, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday in the 2900 block of NW 49th Avenue. On Sunday and Monday, DUI Task Force members will remain mobile, assisting other deputies and police officers in making DUI arrests throughout Broward.

Labor Day Weekend is traditionally a busy time for boating. With over 44,000 registered boaters in Broward County, and a good weather forecast, the ocean and local canals and inlets will almost certainly be teeming with watercraft. BSO’s Marine Unit will be out, day and night, running OUI (Operating Under the Influence) patrols, doing boat ramp safety inspections, running radar enforcement in speed zones, doing general patrols, and responding to emergencies. While the Marine Unit deputies may patrol anywhere in the county, their efforts will be concentrated in Dania Beach, Pompano Beach, at Hollywood’s Lloyd State Park and at Everglades Holiday Park in western Broward.
