BSO Accreditation

The Broward Sheriff's Office is the nation's largest fully-accredited sheriff's department. Accreditation is the certification by an independent reviewing authority that an agency has met specific requirements and prescribed professional standards.

In 2005, BSO's Department of Law Enforcement was re-accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), the nation's largest law enforcement accreditation organization. In 2007, BSO's Department of Law Enforcement was also re-accredited by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA), Florida's own law enforcement accreditation organization.

In 2007, BSO's Department of Detention was re-accredited by the American Correctional Association. In 2006, the Department of Detention received re-accreditation from the Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission (FCAC) and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC). Additionally in 2006, BSO's Drug Court Treatment Division and In Custody Treatment Division were both accredited by the Commission for the Accreditation of Rehabilitative Facilities (CARF).

In 2007, BSO's Department of Fire Rescue was accredited by the National Academy of Emergency Medical Dispatch (NAEMD) in Emergency Medical Dispatch.

In addition, the Broward Sheriff's Office has been accredited by:

  • The National Commission on Correctional Health Care for Healthcare.
  • American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors, Laboratory Accreditation Board.
  • The United States Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation for BSO's Bomb Squad.
  • The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (Blue Seal Award).
