Housed within BSO's Main Jail Bureau, the Central Intake Unit handles booking, records maintenance, release, transport, temporary housing and court activities of inmates within the Broward County jail system. Three satellite booking facilities, located throughout the county, also process inmates who are then transferred to the Main Jail pending court hearings. The Central Intake Unit handles bookings for all Broward County law enforcement agencies.
The facility also operates the Juvenile Intervention Facility, oversees the Baker Act and Confinement Status units and provides security details for medical transports.

In April 1987, Louis Fontanazza began his career with the Broward Sheriff’s Office as a deputy assigned to the North Broward Bureau. During his career, he worked in the Mental Health Unit, the Drug & Alcohol Program, Master Control, Special Operations and Intake before being promoted to sergeant in 1994. As sergeant he was responsible for a myriad of assignments throughout the detention process....
