NOT ONE PERSON
In a vote of confidence that was both gratifying and humbling, Governor Charlie Crist afforded me the honor and the task of leading the Broward Sheriff’s Office through the current transition period. In the past, I have faced some daunting challenges in my personal and professional life. I have risen to meet those challenges in the past, and I look forward to doing the same once again.
When we look at the big picture of law enforcement in Broward County, there are many important elements to be considered. Yet one element remains constant. That is the Broward Sheriff’s Office is certainly not about one person. It never has been. BSO is an ever-evolving agency of more than 6,000 dedicated people who are here for one reason and one reason only: to serve the people of Broward County.
Regardless of who holds the title of Sheriff, BSO’s mission of service and protection is unwavering and our agency’s history remains one of pride. Recent events may have focused attention on a few. Yet this spotlight did not capture the many others whose commitment to serve is unwavering every day they put on the uniform.
To the countless residents and visitors to whom BSO is sworn to protect and serve, let me assure you that the men and women at BSO - whether in law enforcement, detention or fire rescue - remain the best in the business. It has been their hard work that has kept this agency at the top of the list of public safety’s elite agencies. It is their hard work that will keep us there.
My message to BSO members has been that we are strong, we are professional, and we will work together, in support of each other and for the benefit of nearly two million people that we serve. We are the BSO and our best days are yet to come.
